Rohit Sharma's sudden Test retirement came as a big jolt to the BCCI just before India's Test series against England. The Test series starts from June 20.
The IND vs ENG Test series also kicks off the WTC 2025-27 campaign for both India and England. This is a marquee series. Meanwhile, Rohit's decision to retire from potentially leading the team in the series came as a big surprise to the BCCI.
The selectors and the management is now busy looking for a suitable replacement for Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill is the favourite to replace Rohit as next Test skipper. However, former India selector MSK Prasad has thrown in another interesting suggestion.

Jasprit Bumrah Is Fit Now - MSK Prasad
He has backed Jasprit Bumrah to lead India in Test cricket after Rohit Sharma's retirement. Prasad has backed a fit Bumrah to handle the mantle of the Indian team in Test cricket.
"Why not, man? Why not? Since he's fit now, why not?" Prasad told India Today, on being asked if Bumrah is still in contention for the captaincy.
"You have three choices right now: Bumrah, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul. These are the three options. If you're looking at Bumrah, he will obviously play both cycles-this one and the next-so there's nothing wrong. And whatever opportunities he's had to lead, he's done extremely well," he added.
Shubman Gill Needs One Good Series In England - MSK Prasad
He further made an interesting observation on Shubman Gill, who is being touted as the next India Test skipper. He said that Gill has to cement his place in the Test side as a number three batter.
"See, I think Shubman needs one good series in England or New Zealand so he can focus on his batting. So, I think Bumrah is a fantastic leader. There's no second thought about that. You can start with Bumrah and make Shubman vice-captain," he added.
