Not Gill, Jadeja, Siraj, this all-rounder wins impact player of the series in Indian dressing room

Summary

The dressing room player of the series for the India vs England series was won by this player who contributed immensely with bat and ball

Washington Sundar Lord's PC

While India skipper Shubman Gill walked away with the player of the series in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he did not win the prestigious award in the Dressing Room Presentation Ceremony. Neither did Ravindra Jadeja, who scored over 500 runs and picked seven wickets, nor did pacer Mohammed Siraj, who was the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets to his name.

The Dressing Room Impact Player of the Series was won by all-rounder Washington Sundar, who scored 284 runs in four Tests and picked up seven wickets. In the fifth Test, the southpaw scored a brisk fifty, which just about proved enough to help India win the Oval Test by just six runs and level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. Throughout the four Tests, the all-rounder chipped in with bat and ball and was one of the unsung heroes in India's famous series-leveling victory.

For the unversed, Washington Sundar was initially overlooked due to Nitish Kumar Reddy. However, the off-spinner got his chance once the latter was ruled out of the Test series. Later on, he was picked in all three Tests, forming a formidable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.

Sundar proves his worth in gold as the all-rounder shows consistency

One of the most notable aspects of Sundar's game was his ability to remain calm under tense situations also. Barring that one over the top statement, the Tamil Nadu player was impeccable with bat and ball, making sure India do not miss Ravi Ashwin's presence in the team, who retired from international cricket earlier this year. Like his senior statesman, Sundar proved reliable with bat and ball.

His game-changing spell in the fourth Test enabled India to secure a hard-earned draw, while his counterattacking fifty helped India set a target of 374 runs, which was just enough to level the series. The series also proved that Sundar is here to stay in all formats of the game.
