"Gambhir didn't oppose": Shocking revelations come to light amidst Abhishek Nayar's sacking

The BCCI has decided not to renew the contract of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in the Indian Cricket Team. Now, as per a report by the Hindustan Times, head coach Gautam Gambhir didn't oppose this decision taken by the apex board of the country. Both Nayar and Gambhir have been good friends over the years.

Last year, after taking over the reins of the team, Gautam Gambhir went on to appoint his long-term friend Abhishek Nayar as the assistant coach of the team. The duo has shared success previously working with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.

BCCI trims down Team India's support staff

As per reports, after the humiliating 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI decided to trim down the support staff. It was then that Gambhir didn't oppose this idea. On the contrary, Gautam Gambhir was more poised in retaining bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate.

"Gambhir didn't oppose (to Nayar's sacking). He had to go through a lot of negotiations to bring Ten Doeschate and Morkel on board. There was no way he was going to let them go this early," a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.
"The board officials took feedback from senior cricketers, and some were not happy with Nayar's role inside the dressing room. He was informed about the non-renewal of his contract a few days ago," the source added.

Not just Nayar, there are other departures from the support staff as well. Fielding coach T. Dilip and S&C coach Soham Desai are also set to leave after having worked in their position for 3 years. In the meantime, Adrian Le Roux will join the side as the Strength and Conditioning coach, which will be his second stint for the Men in Blue.

"Certain things are being finalised. You will receive a press note from BCCI in some days," said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
