Abhishek Sharma to get maiden BCCI contract

There are likely to be some new additions in the new BCCI central contract list. A few players are in line to make it to the list courtesy of their consistent performance in the IPL and international cricket for India.

The BCCI is likely to announce the new list of centrally contracted players in October 2025. The board generally announced the new contract list by February-March. However, this time around, the process is expected to be delayed a little.

The board is keen to assess India's performance in Test cricket after their recent loss to New Zealand at home followed by an overseas Test series loss to Australia.

Looking to make amends, the BCCI has started its reordering process by snubbing members of the Indian support staff. While this comes across as not such a pleasant news, the BCCI is also ensuring to give opportunities to players who have performed consistently in the recent past.

Shreyas Iyer is likely to be considered after his recent performance in the Champions Trophy 2025. He was the top run-getter for India in their victorious campaign as he scored 243 runs in five games at at an average of 65.75. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma is one of the main entrants in the upcoming BCCI contract list. He is expectd to be placed in Group C that sees players get 1 crore annually.

Abhishek Sharma To Be Placed In Group C

Along with Iyer, BCCI is also likely to hand maiden contracts to Abhishek Sharma. Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy. All of them made their international debuts for India in 2024 and have impressed the selectors. The southpaw has played 17 T20Is for India. The all-rounder Reddy has played five Tests and four T20Is, while Harshit Rana two Tests, five ODIs and one T20I for the national team.

Along with the above-mentioned cricketers, Varun Chakravarthy is also in consideration to get his central contract from the BCCI. As per the BCCI standard policy, "athletes who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of three Tests or eight ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period will automatically be included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis." Hence all these players meet the policy and thus are eligible for getting the contract.

Another major development coming through is that the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja will be retained in the A+ category and too many changes are unlikely to happen. The announcement is likely to be made soon along with the changes made to the support staff of the Indian team as well.
